CSE/CPSE Meetings
Depending upon the age of your child, you will be invited to a Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) or a Committee on Special Education (CSE) meeting at your child's school. The purpose of the meeting is to review the findings of the clinicians, review your child's progress in school, speak with the parents/guardians, and to determine if the child is eligible to be classified and, if so, the services to be provided.
We are able to participate in your child's meeting and discuss the results of our evaluations.
Impartial Hearings
When you and your child's school district are involved in a dispute about a special education issue, an impartial hearing is one of the ways that the dispute can be resolved.
We are able to testify in support of our evaluations at impartial hearings. We have extensive experience working alongside other professionals (e.g. lawyers and advocates) when preparing for impartial hearings.
Independent Education Evaluations (IEEs)
Are you concerned that the evaluation the school district has conducted for your child is not adequate?
Evaluations done by a school district are often very short and contain little to no interpretation. They often do not include recommendations and do not accurately reflect your child's disability. Your child may need additional testing to help ensure that he/she receives the proper help in school.
You have the write to request an independent evaluation.
An IEE is an evaluation conducted by a qualified professional who is not employed by the school district. The parent, not the school district selects the person who will conduct the IEE. The school district may have a list of approved evaluators, however, the evaluator selected by the parents does not have to be on an approved list.
