ImPACT Test
At Westchester Psychological Testing Center we utilize the ImPACT test. It is a computerized brain injury measurement tool for individuals who have sustained a traumatic brain injury (concussion). The ImPACT is used to help determine the severity of the head injury. The ImPACT Test will assess visual and verbal memory, processing speed, reaction time and accuracy.
During the evaluation process, we work closely with athletes and those responsible for them, including medical doctors, parents, coaches, athletic trainers, and educators, helping them to understand the impact of the concussion on the athlete and aiding in making safe return-to-play decisions.
Concussion Protocol at Westchester Psychological Testing Center
First, we recommend a baseline test. A baseline test refers to neurocognitive testing under normal conditions before injury and it is a crucial part of post injury management providing a snapshot of how one’s brain functions in normal, everyday environment. The results of this test are utilized by your pediatrician or neurologist to compare with post concussion test (that we conduct) of the same individual and assist in formulating accommodations and treatment for expedited recovery.
The first ImPACT test will provide a set of baseline results that can then be used to compare to post-injury results.
